About the Author: Daniel Harris (CVTmechanic)

My name is Daniel Harris, though many in the automotive community know me by my handle: CVTmechanic. I’ve been working with automatic transmissions for over 18 years, and my specialty for the past decade has been CVTs. I started this site to make the world of variable transmissions more accessible to regular drivers and to challenge the myths surrounding them with facts and real-world experience.

Before building this resource, I worked in transmission shops across the Midwest, trained junior techs, and collaborated with independent rebuilders and powertrain engineers. I am ASE-certified and continue to test and evaluate tools, fluids, and methods on and off the shop floor.

On CVTmechanic.com, you’ll find:

  • Step-by-step maintenance guides (including fluid change intervals and procedures)
  • CVT failure case studies and early warning signs
  • Comparative reviews of CVT systems by make and model
  • Answers to common owner questions, written in plain language
  • Links to official service manuals and trusted third-party testing sources

We do not promote any particular product or brand unless it has been independently tested and verified. No paid placements. No affiliate pressure. Just honest advice rooted in the workshop and confirmed by data.

If you’ve got a question, correction, or want to suggest an article topic, I’m always happy to hear from readers. Transparency is part of what this site was built on.
